Instructions

Use the arrows on your keyboard to move and turn. The left and right arrows are used to turn. The up and down arrows move forward and back. Use the space key or X to fire. You can hold down arrow keys when moving or the space bar or X for auto-fire. You can also use the a key to turn auto-fire on and click it again to turn it off. Hit P for pause, M for mute, and Z to jump (warp) to a random location on the board. Collect powerups for better weapons. Occasionally, UFOs will appear. Their missles can be shot down. When the UFOs are close, they will fire straight shots that can’t be destroyed. Each round, there are more asteroids, they get faster, and they break up into more pieces.

Run your trippy blue hedgehog called Sonic through the map in the shortest amount of time. Collect gold rings along the way. Be careful as there are bugs and monkeys and stuff that will knock the rings out of your claws. Get to the end of the course with as many rings as possible.

About Sonic

The first Sonic game was released on June 23, 1991. Since then, Sonic has become one of the world’s best-known video game characters, with his series having sold more than 70 million copies. In 2005, Sonic was one of the first game character inductees into the Walk of Game, alongside Mario and Link.

Sega wanted a game capable of competing with Mario and a character to replace Alex Kidd as the company’s mascot. Several character designs were submitted by its AM8 research and development department, including an armadillo (which then developed into Mighty the Armadillo), a dog, a Theodore Roosevelt look-alike in pajamas (which would later be the basis of Dr. Robotnik/Eggman’s design), and a rabbit (intended to use its extendible ears to collect objects; these aspects were later incorporated into Ristar). History

Simon is an electronic version of Simon Says which was originated from Latin, the Latin version was “Cicero dicit fac hoc”. This means “Cicero says do this”. Cicero was a famous ancient philosopher, statesman, lawyer, political theorist, and Roman constitutionalist.

The tradition behind the game may trace back to the year 1264, when Simon de Montfort captured King Henry III at the English town of Lewes. For the next year, any order Henry III gave could have been countermanded by de Montfort. The situation came to an end the following year when Henry’s son Prince Edward took Simon’s castle by force and used his flags as a means to surprise Simon’s forces in 1265.

For the most part, the day is typically celebrated by feasting on lot’s and lot’s of fatty, sugary, starchy sweet stuff; unless you are a Brit, the Brit’s like to race each other down the middle of a street whilst simutaniously flipping a pancake in a frying pan….Being a Brit myself, all I can say is after the celebrations of ‘Groundhog Day” and “Punxsutawney Phil” let’s call it evens!! Anyway’s, I was experimenting with some recipes last night and thought I might share with you some of the ones I cam up with.  I have to warn you, they aren’t half bad.

Regular Beer Pancakes

Ingredients

• 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
• 3/4 cup white sugar
• 2-1/4 teaspoons baking powder
• 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
• 4 egg, beaten
• 1 tsp, baking powder
• 1 tsp, baking soda
• 3 cups beer
• 1/4 cup melted butter

Directions

1. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Pour in the egg, beer and melted butter; stir with a whisk just until blended – a few lumps are okay.
2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Coat with vegetable oil or cooking spray. Spoon about 1/4 cup of batter onto the hot surface for each pancake. When bubbles appear on top of the pancakes, flip, and cook until browned on the other side.
3. Pour a large pint of your favorite beer, sit back and enjoy.

Whisky Pancakes

Ingredients

• 55g (2 oz) plain flour
• pinch of Salt
• 1 egg
• 150ml (¼ pint) Milk
• 2 tsp groundnut or other flavourless oil
• 300ml (½ pint) orange juice
• 2 tbsp honey
• 15g (½ oz) butter
• 3 tbsp whisky

Directions

1. Sift the flour and the salt into a large bowl. Make a hole in the centre and break the egg into it. Gradually whisk in the milk to form a smooth batter. Heat a frying pan, pour in the oil and then wipe it clean with kitchen paper. Pour just enough batter in to coat the base and cook for about a minute. Give it a shake to loosen it up, then toss and cook the other side. Repeat with the rest of the batter, then put the pancakes aside.
2. Pour the orange juice into the frying pan and add the honey and butter. Bring to the boil and simmer for 5 minutes to reduce the sauce, then pour in the whisky. Fold the pancakes into quarters and place them in the simmering sauce for 30 seconds to warm though.

Banana Rum Pancakes

Ingredients

• 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 3 eggs
• 1 1/2 cups bananas (diced)
• 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
• 1/4 cup Rum (I used Myers Rum, but you could use whatever)
• 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
• 6 tablespoons butter – melted
• 3 tablespoons sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• Warm maple syrup as needed
• Butter as needed

Directions

Beat egg, milk, melted butter until well blended. Mix in dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cinnamon to form a slightly thick batter. Add Rompope liqueur and mix. Fold in diced banana and walnuts. Lightly grease a preheated griddle or non-stick fry pan. Pour batter onto cooking surface and cook until golden brown on both sides and cooked through. Serve with butter and warm maple syrup.

Jill Paradiso is a classically trained chef that has worked in the kitchens of Mario Batali and Jean-Georges Vongerichten – you might recognize them. She has also done recipe development for Martha Stewart, Whole Foods Markets, and Dean and Deluca and she’s been kind enough to share some of her recipes with us.

I [Jill Paridiso] recently served this side dish along side a mixed grill of pork sausage, lamb chops, and steak.  You could easily serve it along side chicken or a meatier fish.  Clearly, these potatoes offer a variety of pairing opportunities, and they are surprisingly easy and delicious!

.

You will need three pieces of aluminum foil for the recipe.
Serves 4 (as a side dish)

2 lbs potatoes, cut in half lengthwise
*I recommend using either small, red potatoes (also known as new potatoes) or fingerling potatoes
1/4 cup dark chocolate, chopped (you can also use chocolate chips)
2 tablespoons coffee grinds
1 table olive oil
sea salt, to taste

1.Place cut potatoes on 1 piece of aluminum foil. Fold foil around potatoes to create a boat.
2. Add remainder of ingredients.
3.Cover the top of the potatoes with a second piece of foil to create a sealed package. Wrap the entire package with the third piece of foil- this will ensure that no liquids leak out.
4.Place foil package directly on grill. Cook about 20 minutes, or until fork tender. Cooking time may vary slightly, depending upon the size of the potatoes.

Once the potatoes are cooked through, I like to leave them on the grill for at least another 5 minutes so that the bottoms crisp!

I couldn’t find this recipe on Vibrant Rioja’s site, but there were a ton of other tasty sounding recipes; not quite as strange sounding as this one, but still of fine quality, as well as information on their wines.  Check out their site http://www.vibrantrioja.com/recipes.html and sign up for their newsletter.

• 1 cup beer (I used Old Speckled Hen)
• 1 stick, plus 1 tb, unsalted butter
• 1 cup grated cheddar (Sharper the better)
• 2 cups dark brown sugar
• 3/4 cup sour cream
• 2 eggs
• 1 tb vanilla extract
• 2 cups flour
• 2 1/2 tsp baking soda

Combine the beer and the butter, chopped into 1-inch chunks, in a large sauce pan, and heat to melt the butter. Add cheddar. Remove from heat, and whisk in the sugar. In a bowl, whisk the sour cream with the eggs and vanilla, then add to the beer mixture. Sift together the flour and baking soda, and fold into the batter. Pour into cupcake wrappers and bake for 25 minutes, or until inserted cake tester comes out clean.

Makes 18 cupcakes.

Bacon Cheddar Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

• 1 8oz package cream cheese
• 1/4 cup butter
• 4 cups powdered sugar
• 3/4 cup grated cheddar
• 1 cup bacon bits (You can make your own by cooking some bacon in a glass pan in the microwave for 3 minutes between paper towels and food processing it.)

Make sure cream cheese and butter are are room temperature and beat them until creamy. Add grated cheddar. Slowly mix in powdered sugar. Stir in bacon bits.

Slather the frosting over the cupcakes, consume several beers and enjoy!

• Regular sliced bacon is .062 inches thick (1/16 inch) 16 – 20 slices per pound.  Thin sliced bacon is .031 inches thick (1/32 inch) 28 – 32 slices per pound, and thick sliced bacon is .111 inches thick (1/8 inch) 10 – 14 slices per pound.
• The BLT, (Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich) became popular when fresh lettuce and tomatoes became available year round with the rapid expansion of supermarkets after World War II.
• It’s one of the oldest meats in history; the Chinese were preserving and salting pork bellies around 1500 B.C.
• While heavy on salt and kind of high in calories, bacon has no trans fat at all. Several slices of bacon are healthier in terms of calories, salt, fat and cholesterol than a hot dog, hamburger or glazed donut.
• The firmer the fat, the less sliced bacon will curl as it cooks.
